Industrial action by some Huntingdonshire District Council staff, which included some of the council’s waste collection crews, has been suspended.
Talks between the council, its Employee Representation Group and UNISON have made progress and new pay offers have been put forward which will now be consulted on by all staff, which includes UNISON members.
Industrial action that was planned to start on Monday 21 August at Eastfield House has been suspended and all waste collections services should be running as normal. Further industrial action by some of the council’s staff employed at Pathfinder House from Tuesday 29 August to Friday 1 September 2023 has also been suspended.
Residents are asked to present their refuse, recycling and green bins as usual. Further updates will continue to be provided on the Huntingdonshire District Council website.
Cllr Martin Hassall, Executive Councillor for Corporate and Shared Services, said: “We are pleased that there has been some progress and that strike action has been suspended.
“We very much hope an agreement can be reached. It is in everyone’s interests for this to be resolved without industrial action. The new pay offers that we have put forward meet our commitments to rewarding staff where we can, avoiding redundancies and cuts to services and maintaining the financial sustainability of the council.
“We thank everyone for their patience.”
